the bread - video in which Mendes films herself making a bread. The video has a performative aspect in which the artist starts by mixing the flour, water, yeast and salt together. Intially, the movement is slow and almost tender. After a while, she starts to punch and fold the dough energetically. In the end, the movement is again slow, a perfect ball of dough is formed, and left to rest. The ambiguity of the movement makes the viewer wonder to what extent, bread, love, religion or frustration come together.
